Gastric sleeve
Gastric sleeve surgery is a form of bariatric surgery, also called weight loss surgery. It involves removal of a large part of the stomach. After the surgery, the person feels full after eating a small amount of food.
The surgery makes people feel less hungry because a smaller stomach will produce lower levels of a hormone called ghrelin, which causes hunger.
It is recommended for people who are overweight or obese, or who have health problems caused by obesity.
The first step is usually to try changes to your food intake and your daily activity and exercise.
Losing weight after gastric sleeve surgery can help reduce problems with type 2 diabetes, asthma episodes, reduce knee pain and blood pressure, and can help improve heart health.
The surgeons at BariClinic have been recognized for performing Gastric Sleeve. They offer a variety of services with safe and effective techniques,, including the Gastric Sleeve, and their decades of experience are reflected in their work.

Gastric Sleeve Procedure
Keyhole surgery is performed using a general anesthetic. Your surgeon will put you to sleep during the procedure, and you won’t feel a thing. A small cut will be made in your abdomen (about 1/2 inch long) and insert a port into your abdomen .
They’ll pump carbon dioxide gas through the port to expand your abdomen.
Next, they will insert a small video camera (laparoscope) through your port. The camera will project your insides onto a screen for viewing.
Through one to three additional incisions, your surgeon will insert additional ports and complete the procedure using long, narrow tools.
The surgeon will use a stapling device to create a small tube or ‘sleeve’ in the stomach, then remove the rest of the stomach.
After surgery, the stomach will hold only about a fifth of what it did before. During gastric sleeve surgery, a large part of the stomach is removed and then incisions are closed.
Gastric Sleeve Post Op
If you have gastric sleeve surgery, you will start with liquid foods. After a few weeks, you will gradually move to pureed food, then to solid food. Your meals will consist of smaller amounts of food.
You will need to make significant lifestyle changes after bariatric surgery to lose weight and keep it off. For example, you will get nutritional advice from a dietitian on how to change your eating habits to keep healthy while losing weight.
Your meals will be much smaller than before. You will also have to, and be able to, increase the amount of physical activity you do.
Gastric Sleeve Results
Gastric sleeve patients can lose significant amounts of weight quickly.
In many cases, patients reach their Goal Weight (GW) in the first two years following surgery.
6-month post-op results: 45% excess weight loss
1-year post-op results: 65% excess weight loss
Gastric sleeve recovery
After your sleeve gastrectomy, you’ll need to rest for at least 2-3 weeks. Your body needs time to heal and you’ll be on a very restricted diet during this time.
